2022 Carignan
Testa Vineyards · Mendocino County · Old Vines
Vibrant · Silky · Savory · Old-Vine
From the historic Testa Vineyards in Mendocino County, our 2022 Carignan is a vibrant, soulful expression of old vines and one of California's most compelling heritage varieties.
Hand-harvested from old-vine blocks and crafted in small lots, this is Carignan at its most inviting: bright red fruit, savory herbs, beautiful natural acidity and gentle tannins. With only a small amount of this vintage remaining, these are among the final bottles available from our 2022 release.
In the Glass
Red cherry, pomegranate and rose lead the way, layered with wild herbs and fine spice.
The palate is vibrant and silky, with gentle tannins and mouthwatering acidity that keeps the wine fresh from the first sip through its long, savory finish.
Medium-bodied, expressive and wonderfully drinkable, this is the kind of red that feels equally at home at a dinner party or beside a simple weeknight meal.
Serve it slightly cool—around 58–62°F—and watch it sing.
What to Pair With Carignan
Carignan's bright acidity, savory character and moderate tannins make it a fantastic food wine. Pour it with:
Roast chicken or pork
Grilled lamb
Sausages and charcuterie
Wood-fired pizza
Tomato-based pasta
Grilled mushrooms
Roasted vegetables
Mediterranean dishes and herbs
Hard and aged cheeses
It's particularly good when there's something smoky, savory or tomato-driven on the table.
Old Vines at Testa Vineyards
Our Carignan comes from old vines at Testa Vineyards in Mendocino County, where generations of farming have shaped a remarkable piece of Northern California wine country.
Old-vine Carignan has a long history in California, and these vines give us fruit with the concentration, natural freshness and character we want—without sacrificing the variety's wonderfully energetic personality.
It's exactly the kind of vineyard story Prinsley exists to preserve and share.
Minimal Intervention. Maximum Character.
The fruit is hand harvested and fermented in small lots with native yeast, using gentle cap management to preserve purity and finesse.
The wine is then raised in neutral vessels, allowing the brightness of the fruit and character of the vineyard to remain at the center.
Minimal handling. No heavy-handed winemaking. Just beautiful fruit given room to express where it came from.
Final Bottles of the 2022 Vintage
We produce our wines in small quantities, and the 2022 Carignan is nearly sold out.
Once these final bottles leave the cellar, this vintage is gone.
If Carignan is already one of your favorites—or you've never discovered what old-vine California Carignan can be—this is a beautiful place to start.
