Kim and Rea Prince.
Ilsley Meets Prince, born PRINSLEY.
As with most legendary wines, Prinsley’s begins with a story....
Rea met Kim while he was the cellar master and winegrower for DaVero Wines in Healdsburg.... the first wine club Kim had ever been a member of! One glance was enough – they fell madly in love right away.
Following a whirlwind romance, newly engaged Kim and Rea headed off on a one-way ticket to a yearlong wine-driven adventure around the world. Working harvest alongside each other in Trentino Alto Adige in Italy, Northern Canterbury in New Zealand, and Judaean mountains in Israel, they knew their effortless ability to coexist in all aspects of life would fuel their eventual return to California and the creation of their very own ultra-premium wine label, the doubly eponymous Prinsley Wines.
With their first vintage harvested just days after their wedding in 2019, a dry-farmed, old vine Chardonnay from legacy grower Rollin Wilkinson on State’s Lane in Yountville, they were on their way to fulfilling their dreams.
Together they refined their unique style of winemaking, combining it with their ethical values as stewards of the land. Kim is a fourth generation Napa Valley grape grower from one of the Stag’s Leap AVA’s most respected farming families, with a deeply rooted passion for preserving the legacy of Napa Valley. She specializes in sales, marketing and creating profound and lasting relationships. As Prinsley Wines’ general manager, she assists in winemaking and driving the Prinsley vision.
Rea has a degree in Viticulture and Enology, plus a long resume of working at vineyards around the globe, including Azinda Foradori, Domaine Zind Humbrecht, Caves Yves Cuilleron and more. Today, he works as the Director of Production at DaVero Farms&Winery in Healdsburg. Responsible for winemaking, viticulture and regenerative farming. Rea also focus on working with local vineyards as a soil biology consultant, helping farmers get off degenerative farming practices. Inspired by the gentle, vineyard-driven winemaking styles of Europe, Rea partners with Kim in brand development and strategy and is also Prinsley Wines’ winemaker.
Kim and Rea have an ongoing passion to combat climate change through sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices while creating high-end boutique wines. By shepherding organically grown grapes through spontaneous fermentation and encouraging youthfully intense flavor profiles through natural means, Prinsley Wines are a shining example of what can happen when working harmoniously hand-in-hand with Mother Nature.
Kim and Rea live in Cloverdale with their first child Lev and are expecting another baby boy in the Spring of 2024. They enjoy sharing great wine with friends, spending time in nature, and preserving the heritage of this special place they call home.
